Mother Nature Wakes Me Up

Mother Nature

wakes me up with

the patter of rain,

low drums of thunder.

In rumbles,

she whispers:

Receive

my wonder.

I open my eyes,

curl toward

the window,

watch gray light

seep between

the blinds, listen

in the stillness to

this morning storm.

The second before

I rise, she flashes

lightning with

her question:

Won’t you soak

me up then return

a drop

of the kindness

I pour out

on this earth?

I close my eyes,

open my arms

like a star

savoring

the shine.

I reply with

my out-breath:

I will try.
