Mystery Incident
He was startled by the sudden appearance
Of a couple in the park, twittering next to a large perch
With a day-glo orange bar,
They were joined by an old woman
In jazzy leggings, squawking at two small children
Running in ever faster orbits round her.
The bird, whatever it was, had disappeared
Into a green cage with broken bars
Panicking the pigeons with its shrill oratory;
The adults ringed the tree, cawing for it
To come down; the feathered children flew past,
Screeching with what seemed like delight.
