Campfire poem

I see us in every flame I’ve ever lit,

From the sting of the burn to the beauty of the fire

It's always been you.

Let's dance like the flames do,

Whilst you sing to entertain the Gods,

And I blaze the drunk tune of our song.

I grip the lighter, shaking

And watching the smoke disappear out your mouth,

Avoiding your eyes because if I look I’ll see sparks,

And we both know that ends in ashes.

Is it worth the inferno?

We’re the perfect match, but there’s no embers left.

I’m already burned out, abandoned as timber,

But you’re still my light.

Yellow like my favourite colour,

Orange of your autumn hair,

I see you in every flame I’ve ever lit.

Please stay alight

And maybe one day we’ll ignite.
