Formidable

The rain lashed against the window,

louder than I’d ever heard before.

Sounding like a herd of elephants,

battering at the glass.

Pools of water gathered on the patio,

inviting, to the robins that sheltered

in the nearby oak tree.

The army of ants I saw earlier,

now hidden in the comfort of their den.

The cat next door cried to be let into

the warmth of his abode,

 soaked down to his skin.

The rain lashed against the window

taking the world as its prisoner,

with its formidable drops

attacking everything in its path.
