Waiting

Blue hour. The city is hydrophobic.

It storms and storms—

the street empties like a sea.

Lightning cracks,

illuminates a canyon growing between us,

births a metaphor which melts into the ache

in our stares.

We stay up late,

waiting on the wind to slam

the door shut.
