Leonardo Soboleswki Flores

I am a translator, English teacher, and academic with a profound connection to literature.

I hold an undergraduate degree in English Language, a Master’s in Languages and Culture, and a Specialization in Translation and Lexicon Studies, all completed at Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS). Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Languages at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), where my research focuses on translating The Unclassed by George Gissing. My goal is to deliver a culturally sensitive translation, guided by Discursive and Enunciative Studies, as well as Textual Linguistics, while minimizing domestication at crucial moments (following Venuti’s principles).

Although I translate from English to Portuguese, my literary translation journey is a recent chapter. I am currently collaborating with Brian O'Hare, an incredible fiction writer from Northern Ireland, and have written articles on translation theory and comparative literary analysis.

British authors are just one part of the writers I enjoy exploring; my literary interests go far beyond. Some of my favorite authors include Machado de Assis, José Saramago, Gabriel García Márquez, Mia Couto, Edgar Allan Poe, Ernest Hemingway, and, not to forget, J.R.R. Tolkien. These and many others have profoundly shaped my literary journey.
