Natural Born Drinkers

Bar-tossed lovers, natural born drinkers,

Some memories fade, her face still lingers,

Waves of sunlight, beer gardens of Eden,

Lager lips entangled, taste buds sweeten.

Wild weekends, smoke-filled and boozy,

White frothy beer like a bubbling jacuzzi,

Finding nirvana talking over white cans,

Feelings we thought would last two lifespans.

Her drinking slowed, mine spiralled out of control,

She started a career, I began life on the dole,

She worked in hospitals, while I lived in them,

Flourishing, as I lugged bottles like binmen.

Natural born drinkers, now history inkblots,

She walked away, unscathed; I did not.
