Cassandra Bousquet
Cassandra Bousquet hails from Brisbane, California and enjoys acting, knitting, singing, and period dramas. Her work is featured in the collaborative poem, "Breathe," which appeared in Nature & Culture 2021 Festival Book (Copenhagen: Red Press Kulturhuset Islands Brygge & Københavns Kommune, 2021). More of her work can be found under the Youth and Ecopoetry section of the web archive: speakpoetry.org and her poem, “Dear Human at the Edge of Time” appears in the newly-released anthology of the same title, edited by Luisa A. Igloria, former San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto, and Jeremy S. Hoffman. In April 2023, she held the position of Writer in Residence at Bristol, RI’s historic mansion and museum, Linden Place. Favorite authors and authoresses include Lucy Maud Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Walter R. Brooks, A. A. Milne, Jane Austen, and Oscar Wilde. Favorite novels by authors not already mentioned include The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, The Street by Ann Petry, Contact by Carl Sagan, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke, Spring by Ali Smith, and Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder. Favorite poems include “The Little Ghost” by Edna St. Vincent Millay, “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas, and “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. Additionally, she greatly looks up to the work of both Amanda Gorman and Ocean Vuong. (Yes, it is very difficult for her to pick favorite authors, novels, and poems!) Her tastes vacillate between art that is delicate and romantic, art that heals and art that interrogates, art that tickles her imagination and causes her to think, and art that can inspire a revolution. Spending time in and protecting the natural world is of the utmost importance to her.
