Johnny Day

My name is Johnny Day and I’m a poet, guitarist and ESL teacher based in London, England. I’ve loved and written poetry since I was around ten years old, and to this day it’s the best tool I have for apprehending and comprehending myself, others, and the world.

In December 2023, after a long period of not sharing any of my work, something (perhaps the birth of my daughter, Ellie) pushed me out into the poetry and spoken word scene in London, and that in turn inspired me to start submitting poems to various publications.

I am moved and inspired by such a wide range of poets and writers and am constantly discovering new ones, but some enduring ones are (in no particular order): John Keats, William Blake, Mary Oliver, Louis MacNeice, Seamus Heaney, T.S Eliot, Kae Tempest, Aldous Huxley, Milan Kundera, and Virginia Woolf. I also feel I should mention the musicians and songwriters John Hiatt, Chris Wood, Birdtalker, Craig Cardiff, Dizraeli, Renny Jackson and Blue Rose Code for being equally moving and inspiring.

Aside from poetry, music, teaching and parenthood, I love going to the gym, going for walks in the countryside, and making food that is inadvertently too spicy.
