Lilly Nulty

Hello, my name is Lilly and I am a third year university student studying English Literature at the University of York. I started writing poetry around a year ago and enjoy taking part in my university's Literature Society and their termly open mic nights, which is where I realised my poetry suited being performed and seen beyond the page. I am also really interested in poetry slams, having won my first slam with the Slam Poetry Society at my university, and would love the opportunity to take part in more performance poetry focused events.

I have recently started my own poetry Instagram, @thepoetlill, with the aim to share my work and performances online. My favourite thing about poetry is the way it provides the individual with a voice, as well as being a deeply important literary form to reflect on the difficult parts of life which are hard to process. For me, in writing poetry I am processing and releasing past events that have weighed me down and turning them into something creative and powerful.
