Lauren M. Hancock
Hello, I’m Lauren M. Hancock, a poet from Melbourne, Australia. I am the writer of “I’m sorry, but I think I still love you”, a poetry collection, “Keepsakes of Hope and Despair”, a chapbook, and “Our Whimsical World”, a collection of short poetic stories illustrated by myself. Having graduated with a Master of Teaching (Secondary Music) and Bachelor of Music Performance, I feel the melodic nature, structural organisation and free-flowing phrases of my musical background strongly lend themselves to my poetry style.
I am very inspired by the work of Sylvia Plath; my favourite poems of hers are ‘Lady Lazarus’ and ‘Tulips’. I have been writing poetry since around 2015, and have been writing in general since early childhood. What inspires me to write are my experiences in my world around me, whether interactions with friends or family, strangers, or mere observations of them. Detailing my emotions and feelings in a poetic voice is an excellent means for me to release any frustrations, upsets, or lingering thoughts about a subject or event.
Outside of writing, I enjoy creating wire wrapped jewellery, meditation, volunteering and long walks.
