Emilie Georges

Hi, I’m Emilie, a PhD student at Université Paris Nanterre and a teacher of English language and literature at a lycée in Eastern France. As an undergraduate I studied English and Italian and as a Master’s student I chose to specialise in Anglo-American Modernist poetry; my PhD thesis focuses on the American poet Ezra Pound, on whose work I have also written several academic papers.

I am interested in poetry from all eras and I also enjoy reading fiction. I tend to seek out works written from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century; some of my favourite authors include Percy Bysshe Shelley, Jane Austen, W. Somerset Maugham, Dylan Thomas, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and William Faulkner. My favourite recent-ish poems are ‘Errata’ by Kevin Young and Harryette Mullen’s ‘Dim Lady’, a modern version of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 130.

When I am not reading, writing, or teaching about language and literature, I turn to visual rather than textual patterns and like to knit and sew my own clothes.
